Hungover and tired as shit, I really wasn't feeling good about walking to town three and a half hours early to try and get to see The Roots play. But my bud Rich Glass would never let me live it down if I didn't go because I was talking about it for weeks before. So to get into the mood we brewed up a couple of bucket bongs and headed in to see what was the best show I think I have ever seen. Timing was everything on this night because just after we hotboxed the disabled persons port-a-potty (you can easily fit three people in those), The Roots hit the stage.
Playing tribute to James Brown, Led Zep and a host of old blues greats, The Roots really showed the world what a class act they are by inviting the Canadian Womans Bobsleigh team onstage to party for a few songs.
After a while I couldn't help but notice another photographer had decided that he would park himself right beside me to get some shots and of course we kept bumping into each other (this is the part that usually sucks about taking photos at shows like this, other people thinking nothing about getting in your way instead of finding
their own spot), but instead of getting mad at him I just turned his way until he noticed and I just laughed and started yelling how great this show was. That took the tension out of the air and he eventually moved on.
I think it is fair to say that everybody had a blast, the band, the crowd and even the cops. I spotted more than a couple of RC's dancing away and getting their photos taken by people.
